Being a Mystic in the "Real" World

I am a mystic — not in the distant, cloistered sense, but as a living, breathing presence in the world. I walk this path in the middle of strategic planning sessions and budget meetings, as much as in spiritual retreats.  To me, being a mystic in the "real" world means to infuse light into the world with every step, word and thought.   That's the goal, at least, and some days shine brighter than others.

Being a mystic means listening for the invisible patterns behind the obvious ones. It means choosing to lead from presence rather than pressure, from intuition rather than analysis — even if, on the surface, my decisions sound perfectly rational. Most people think I lead with logic. In truth, I lead with resonance. I feel the rightness of a thing before I can explain it. The explanation comes later, like translation.

In the workplace, that looks like being the one who connects dots, ties strategy and execution, who understands that a roadmap isn’t just a tool for delivery — it’s a reflection of values, intention, and alignment. I bring clarity, not just because I think clearly, but because I listen deeply — to people, to energy, to what’s wanting to emerge.

And then I go home and light a candle. I chant. I meditate. I do my healing work. I gather in circle with others who, like me, are dreaming a new world into being. These are not two separate lives. It’s one stream of devotion expressed in many forms.

To be a mystic in the "real" world is not to withdraw — it is to remember. To remember who we are underneath the titles, the roles, the noise. To bring the sacred into the center of the ordinary. And to walk through the world as a portal of light, offering coherence, compassion, and clarity wherever we go.
